Continue ShoppingIn the Kumihimo Design world the use of a metallic Japanese fiber is extremely popular. The use of metallics as an accent component in a fiber necklace provides a unique aspect of texture no other fiber can achieve. During the American Kumihimo Society Conference held in San Francisco in 2023 we were again inspired by one of the worlds' greatest Kumihimo authors and the Octoplate foam disk inventor Makiko Tada (Sensei). We have now added two new metallic Art Jewelry designs to our inventory and we will continue to expand our offerings using these unique fibers.
One of our most popular of the fiber designs are the necklace/hatband configurations made from silk or imitation silk fibers (called Off-Balance Kongo Gumi inspired by Adrienne Gaskell another renowned international Kumihimo teacher and artist. These designs require a unique weaving technique that results in a spring type necklace. The end result is a lovely spiral that creates a beautiful necklace that is lightweight so can be worn around the neck and can also be used on the brim of a straw hat like we wear Feather Lei here in Hawaii. Each necklace/hat band is approximately 20" -22" in length and can be combined to allow you to purchase a "two for one" gift for your wardroom.
