Japanese Silk & Metallic Fiber Necklaces and "Beads as Fiber"

In our Kumihimo Design world the use of a metallic Japanese fiber is extremely popular. The use of metallics as an accent color in a fiber necklace provides a subtle splash of color and sparkle. During the American Kumihimo Society Conference held in San Francisco in 2023 we were again inspired by one of the worlds' greatest Kumihimo authors and the foam disk inventor Makiko Tada. We have now added two new metallic Art Jewelry designs to our inventory and we will continue to expand our offerings using these unique fibers.

One of our most popular of the fiber designs are the necklace/hatband configurations made from silk or imitation silk fibers. This requires a unique weaving technique that results in a spring shaped necklace. This handmade braiding technique requires fibers are woven with a coiling effect. The end result is a lovely spiral that creates a beautiful necklace that is lightweight so can be worn around the neck and can also be used on the brim of a straw hat like we wear here in Hawaii. Each necklace/hat band is approximately 20" -22" in length and can be combined to allow you to purchase a "two for one" gift for your wardroom.
